Captains Log: Day 4

Day 4!! Such a nice day here in Wisco. It really is so nice to be with family, new friends, and ‘Sconnies all around!! We have at long last reunited with our Mequon family and it’s been so so fun. Great to have a few days’ break from being on the road (while gracing their driveway with our gorgeous Sunseeker 😂), the kids can have cousin sleepovers and make new memories, and we have the opportunity to get to know our family’s Midwestern world (and sleep in real beds).

So… after arriving last night, we had a delicious home-cooked meal of stuffed shells, roasted Brussel sprouts and broccoli and a salad, and then we ended the night at their pool, and got to meet their across the street neighbors, who, coincidentally, went to college with our (former) across the street neighbor. Sometimes, sometimes, the name game is a giant success lol.

Then Kara and I started the day at a free Burn Boot Camp event in White Fish Bay, which was so fun, so well-attended, so tough, and I am so sore (already). 💪🏻

Kara and I had a hell of a time at Sendik’s (carpeted) grocery store and we let that great store tell us what we needed. So many laughs and we just love our new jewelry and sunnies and dresses lol. And you can buy wine AND sample fancy cheeses and artwork for your home? I live there now, please forward all mail to me care of Sendik’s, please and thank you.

Then we were the guests at a lovely 3rd of July barbecue at their home with their beautiful crew of dear friends and colleagues (some of whom coincidentally also knew a former colleague of Pat). There was a strong South Jersey and Philly contingent present tonight and we swapped stories and made connections and had open, honest, authentic conversations while the kids played outside as the sun slowly set in the sky. It felt very Americana and it was genuinely wonderful. Cousin bike rides and slip and slides and pickle ball and basketball and sidewalk chalk and Milwaukee Buck wins 🏀 advancing them to the NBA finals, so everyone was psyched. Rosé cocktails, yummy grilled offerings and pies for days. It was such a gift, again, simply to be in a place in the world where we are able to gather, and, more deeply, to be able to know the primary players in our family’s lives.

Also, how cool that even at nearly midnight, it doesn’t get super dark here. That’s how north we are. Wild. Only a few states away, and so many differences, but so many similarities, too. I am grateful for all of it. ❤️
