Sideline Moments of Magic

Every Sunday morning this fall, for an hour, I stand around a street hockey cage in which my daughter participates in a lacrosse league. The girls, tweens and teens, run around on the cement, ponytails bouncing, sticks up, balls flying, trying, learning, growing. I watch. Also, as I pan out, I see the trees surrounding this cage, like stadium seats… Read More

Seeking Moments Challenge Day 30 of 30!! (I did it!!) Sunshine and Rain

Wow, folks!  Here we are!!  I can’t believe I really did it!!  I have successfully completed this little challenge of mine: writing for 30 days straight, seeking beauty in small moments, rekindling a spirit of gratitude amidst the dumpster fire of a year this has been, inserting some control into the chaos of my life and dusting off old habits…. Seeking Moments Challenge Day 29 of 30: Walks with my 5 year old and The Goonies

It’s so easy to miss the little stuff. It was a normal but busy day today, not much to write home about. At the end of it all (homeschooling times four, my husband doing his first full day of video visits since his eye injury and seeing a full caseload, thus exhausting and fatiguing his throbbing injured/healing eye), my husband… Read More

Seeking Moments Challenge Day 28 of 30: Baseball, Best Friends, and Grandparents

So much to be thankful for in just a few hours span of time.  Baseball.  A sport my boys have fallen head over heels in love with over the last few months.  Watching them breathe it and dream it and follow it and learn it and devour it, is a sight to behold. This interest was piqued when their best… Read More

Seeking Moments Challenge Day 27 of 30: Long Walk With an Old Friend During the Craziest Hour of the Day

Recurrent theme in my life: Just. Pick. Up. The. Phone.  I had brought my sons to baseball practice tonight and happened to be alone for an hour and a half. I’m not alone much these days. Four kids in remote schooling plus a recovering-for-two-weeks husband, and there’s just… well, there’s not much quiet to be found. Somehow, almost miraculously, I… Read More

Seeking Moments Challenge Day 26 of 30: Get a Compliment Give a Compliment

My moment today came by way of a random text midway through the morning.  I was sitting at our kitchen table sipping coffee and helping my kindergartener complete a Seesaw activity on her Chromebook. The sunshine was pouring through the window and there was a chill in the air outside, when my phone buzzed.  My cousin’s fiancé was doing his… Read More

Seeking Moments Challenge Day 25 of 30: Dancing in September

Dancing is a gift. Most mornings during this remote schooling experience have begun with my kindergartner’s unbelievably amazing teachers playing epic songs over their Google Meet while the children are all logging on. Pump up songs like “This is Me,” from The Greatest Showman.  “Let it Go” from Frozen. Twice now, they have played Earth Wind and Fire’s “September.”  This morning,… Read More
