Daily Votes

Every action we make in our lives, is a vote for something. My first moment of awareness with this was with regard to nutrition.  I remember critically acclaimed author, journalist and activist  Michael Pollan saying “we vote with our forks.”  Every time you put your fork into organic beef or a mountain of non-GMO vegetables or inexpensive prepackaged food, we… Read More

Ends and Beginnings.

It was gray and rainy as the night turned into day.  I had come down early this morning to meditate and I heard little footsteps come down shortly afterwards. My third-born seven-year-old son snuggled right into my lap and his still-warm toes cuddled under the blanket right into the nooks and crannies behind my knees and under my legs. He… Read More

Be the helper.

I woke up remembering. The cold roll of IV poles on wheels rolling over the linoleum tile floors. The clank of sharps into the red plastic receptacles. The quiet but repetitive beep alerting the nurse that an IV bag was empty. The slow leather crunch as aching bodies tried to find a comfortable position for the next few hours. Soft… Read More

Kobe and Gianna

In a second that felt never-ending, my brow furrowed and my eyes blinked over and over as my head shook no, looking at the screen of my phone, trying to shake reality out of my consciousness. I had a chance just now, once I returned to my little… Read More

We are all responsible for the energy we bring into a space. I remember back in 2008 Oprah saying she had a sign that hung on her office door and in her dressing room saying exactly that. It’s true. We have to own that…being mindful not to litter someone’s life with our own “stuff” and being aware enough of our own center to not pick up anyone’s baggage along our journey. For me, I feel like meditation is like one big giant hiss of air being let out of an overfilled bike tire. It brings me back to zero. Returns me to baseline. Chills me out.

Finding Me.

I began to wonder if maybe some of you out there were also in a rut. In a zone that needed some movement… a stir to dredge up all the alluring qualities of yourself that had fallen to the bottom of the glass over time, since changing jobs, having kids, overcoming that struggle, putting the pieces together after that loss…. All the YOU that got forgotten when you were so busy tending to other matters or people or events… it’s all still there, in the bottom of the cup. But if you don’t shake it up or disturb it some and mix your true self back into your current life…it’s going to remain a sad little sludge of the you-you-used-to-know…
